Former First Lady Michael Obama took over Instagram To publish his own notice.
“This afternoon has been a tough one for our family. We said goodbye to our best friend our dog Poe after a battle with cancer,” he began his thoughtful post.

“For more than a decade, Poe has been a constant, comforting presence in our lives. He was there when the girls came home from school, greeted them with a walk. Barack and I were there when he needed a break. The ball stuck firmly in his teeth, “he wrote. “When we flew in Air Force One, when tens of thousands of people gathered in the southern meadow for the Easter egg roll, the Pope was there to visit. When our lives were sluggish, he was there, helping us take the girls to college and turn life into empty nests.”

In 2009 Poe came to Obama as a gift to their daughters Sasha and Malia. Ted Kennedy and his wife, Victoria, long after their father’s first inauguration, Presidential Pet Museum. Named after the father of the former first lady.

The Portuguese water dog was born on October 9, 2008 in Texas.
