“His condition has improved much faster than any of us expected in the last few months,” the report says. “Unfortunately, Dad can no longer participate in public life, where people all over the world saw, learned and laughed with him.”
“Jungle” became the mainstay of night and day television on Jack Hannah and his animals, thanks to his appearances on shows such as “Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson,” “Night with David Letterman” and “Today”.
Those appearances landed Hannah on her own shows, including “Animal Adventures”, “Into the Wild” and “Wild Countdown”.
“The Columbus Zoo and Fisheries has been an important part of our lives since we moved to central Ohio as young girls in 1978,” her daughters wrote in their statement. “From day one, Dad advocated for improved wildlife habitats and focused on connecting the community with animals. After stepping down as executive director in 1992, he was the zoo’s spokesman until his retirement last year.”
The statement paid tribute to his wife, Susie, who has “been by his side for 53 years in every corner of the globe” and for Hannah’s love for the Columbus Zoo and the fishing community.
“As Dad’s health deteriorates quickly, we can assure you that his sense of humor continues to shine. Yes – he still wears his khaki at home,” the statement said. “To keep everyone safe in the light of the COVID-19 restrictions, we ask for privacy.
